An adorable eight-month-old girl died after she consumed a 'poisoned' açai granola delivered by a mysterious 'secret admirer' man in Brazil.
Yohana Costa fell ill and was rushed to an urgent care facility inNatal, on the country's far north east coast, but doctors were unable to save her life.
Costa's second cousin Geisa Silva, 50, was also taken Macaiba Regiona Hospital, where she remains intubated and is in serious condition.
Silva's son, Yago Smith, told Brazilian news outlet G1 that the aćai granola was among several packages that were delivered to the residence by a delivery man riding a motorcycle.
Silva met the rider at the door and accepted the package, which contained a teddy bear, chocolates and a note with an affectionate message.
'She received it on the first day, ate the chocolates and nothing happened,' Smith said.
On April 14, Silva received a second package from the same delivery man that include the acai and granola.
The family even joked that she had a secret admirer.
Yohana Costa fell ill and died April 13 after consuming'poisoned' açaí granola that was delivered to her mother's cousin at their home in Natal, a city in thenortheastern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte
Silva shared the aćai granola and gave some to Costa, who became sick after eating it.
'After half an hour, 40 minutes, Yohana started to feel very sick,' Smith said. 'My cousin took her to the [urgent care center] and she died. My mother felt sick and we thought it was emotional, until then.'
Costa's mother, Danielle Silva, said doctors had arranged to transfer her to Marie Alice Hospital for further treatment before she died inside an ambulance.
Geisa Silva was treated with medication and discharged.
The delivery man from the prior two drop offs returned April 15 to deliver another order of aćai.
Geisa Silva stored in the refrigerator and had for lunch but fell sick after about 15 minutes and was taken to the hospital by her oldest son.
'She was sweating a lot, her hands were shaking, she didn't even have the strength to say anything,' Smith said. 'She was foaming at the mouth, and then they began to suspect that it was a case of poisoning.'
The family provided leftovers of the aćai and the love note that accompanied the package to the Rio Grande do Norte Civil Police to be analyzed.
'The food consumed was sent for toxicological analysis, but the expert report has not yet been completed,' the police said in a statement. 'There is a possibility of poisoning, however, any statement in this regard, at this time, would be hasty.'
Costa death's came days before a seven-year-old boy and his 13-year-old sister died after eating a poisoned chocolate-covered Easter egg.
As part of the investigation, authorities arrested a woman, who reportedly built up a jealous rage and targeted the children's mother because she had been dating her ex-boyfriend.
